Associated Press front-page report of 13 October 1926 in which Al Capone, interviewed in a Cicero hotel room after the killing of Hymie Weiss, says he wants an end to gang killings.

Front page of the Bismarck Tribune, 13 October 1926. The story is datelined Chicago, October 13, with the Associated Press symbol. It reports that Capone said he wanted an end to the killings "because there is enough business for all of us without killing each other like animals in the street."

It says Capone spoke to reporters "in his modest Cicero hotel room" while police investigated "Monday’s machine gun battle, which took the lives of two north side beer barons," and quotes him: "I don’t want to die in the street punctured by machine gun fire." It reports that police suspicion turned toward Cicero but "there was no direct evidence," and that Chief Morgan Collins said it was a waste of time to arrest Capone.

Capone's statements are his own, given to the press, and are quoted as such. This archive does not treat them as evidence about the Weiss killing.
