A Day Book fire story of 7 August 1912: the owner of two burned West Side buildings said he had received a Black Hand letter that morning and thought the fire might be its work; the paper says the fire attorney would look into it.

Page 11 of the Day Book, Wednesday, 7 August 1912. The story reports a $35,000 fire that gutted two buildings on Chicago's West Side. The owner said he had received a Black Hand letter that morning and thought the fire might be the Black Hand's work, and the paper says the fire attorney would investigate.

The Black Hand reference is the owner's statement. The paper does not say it was borne out, and nothing filed here does. The item is filed as an example of the label being attached to an unexplained fire. The page prints street addresses of the buildings and the owner's home, which are not reproduced here.
