Page 3 of the Washington Evening Star for Monday, 23 September 1929. The item "Rosenberg, Alleged Gunman, Is Seized," with the deck "Chicago Detectives Identify Detroit Kidnaping Suspect by Records," is credited to the Associated Press and datelined Chicago, September 23.

It reports that Abe Rosenberg, "alleged Detroit gunman, gangster and kidnapper," seized on suspicion and identified by his police record, would be returned to Detroit in connection with the kidnapping of David Cass, 22, who disappeared on July 25. It continues: "Rosenberg is reputed head of the purple gang of Detroit, extortionists and gunmen, according to officials," and says he was questioned about the killing of seven men in Chicago on St. Valentine's Day.

These are officials' descriptions, as the wire service gave them. The page reports no charge or outcome, and no other record filed here names Rosenberg.
