Providence dispatch of 3 January 1930 that Rhode Island's attorney general made public the names of the CG-290 crew and asked that they be summoned to the inquest over the Black Duck shooting.

Page 4 of the Evening Star, Washington, D.C., 3 January 1930. Under the head "Names of Crew Given. Patrol Boat Men Summoned For Inquest Over Rum Case Victims" and the dateline "PROVIDENCE, R. I., January 3," the paper reports that the Rhode Island attorney general, "in charge of the State's case in the investigation of the slaying of three rum runners in Rhode Island waters last Sunday morning, today made public the names" of the crew of Coast Guard patrol boat 290. He had received them from United States Attorney Henry M. Boss, Jr., and asked that the crew be summoned to the inquest.

The OCR spells the attorney general's surname "Hieltzen." The research record reads it as Oscar L. Heltzen, which matches the other forms on the page; this archive gives both and has not checked the spelling against another source.

The same page reports a meeting at which speakers attacked the killings, among them John F. Fitzgerald, former mayor of Boston. These are the speakers' statements as reported, not findings.
