A short front-page item reporting that Casper Holstein, 'whose kidnapping last September aroused national interest,' was to have been the victim of a planned $20,000 robbery, learned with the arrest of a man just out of Sing Sing.

In a boxed column of short items headed "Red Hot News," at the lower left of the front page of The Gary American for 23 November 1928, is a paragraph headed "Stop Robbery Plot," datelined NEW YORK CITY.

It reads: "Casper Holstein, wealthy New York clubman and philanthropist, whose kidnapping last September aroused national interest, was to be the victim of a $20,000 robbery by gangsters, it was learned here recently with the arrest of" a man, white, "just out of Sing Sing. He had planned the robbery and was to have been assisted in it by others."

The OCR of the arrested man's name is uncertain and it is not repeated. No other record of the plot or the arrest has been opened. The page is filed as part of the paper's continuing coverage of Holstein after the kidnapping.
