A United Press dispatch from New York on the Diamond shooting: the police commissioner said he knew the names of three men at a conference before it, and the story reports police searching for "Irving Wexler, alias Maxie Gordon" and naming "Arthur Flagenheimer, alias Dutch Schultz" among men held for questioning.

Page 2 of The Indianapolis Times, Thursday, 16 October 1930, Home Edition, carries at top a story headed "LEGS DIAMOND MAY RECOVER, SAY DOCTORS," with the deck "Police Know Names of Three at Conference Before Hotel Shooting." It is credited "By United Press" under a NEW YORK, Oct. 16, dateline. The passages quoted below were read from the page image.

The dispatch reports that Police Commissioner Edward P. Mulrooney said he knew the names of three of the four men who visited Diamond at the Monticello Hotel on the Friday night before the shooting. Under "Release Two Gangsters," it says: "Reports were current that police wree [sic] searching for Irving Wexler, alias Maxie Gordon, who is alleged to be a member of the group which rules the city's illicit liquor traffic." It says that of three men held for questioning two were released, and names among the others "Arthur Flagenheimer, alias Dutch Schultz, Bronx beer baron."

These are a wire service's reports of police activity and of what was "alleged." No one is said to have been charged. The spellings "Maxie" and "Flagenheimer" are the paper's. This page is the only record in this archive that pairs the name Irving Wexler with the name Gordon; it does not mention any tax case, and this archive does not use it to identify the defendant in [United States v. Wexler](/items/courtlistener-us-v-wexler-79-f2d-526/).
