The Omaha Morning Bee front page of 26 January 1925 carries a United Press story from Chicago saying John Torrio refused to say who shot him.

Front page of the Omaha Morning Bee, Monday, 26 January 1925. The Library of Congress catalog title is used for the paper because the OCR of the masthead is garbled. The Chicago story is headed "Torrio Puts Up Valiant Life Battle," with the decks "Chicago Gangland Dictator Refuses to State Who Shot Him; Holds Key to Many Secrets" and "Was Five Points Gunman."

The United Press story, datelined Chicago, 25 January, says John Torrio was "fighting for his life" after being ambushed at the door of his home as he returned with his wife from a shopping trip, his arms full of bundles. It says he was struck by six shots, and quotes him as saying, "Never mind who shot me, that's my business."

The story goes on to describe Torrio's earlier career and to link him to other killings, in the writer's own voice and without attribution. The "Five Points gunman" subhead is the paper's claim. None of this is taken here; the page is filed only as the next-day report of the shooting. Headline as read from the Library of Congress OCR text of the page.
