A United Press report on the 10 April 1928 Illinois primary says 'the vicious political campaign of bombs and bullets in Cook County' ended in a rebuke to the county and city administrations, and that a report that Al Capone was back in Cicero 'was unconfirmed.'

Page 2 of the Washington Daily News, Wednesday, 11 April 1928. The United Press story by C. C. Nicolet, datelined Chicago, reports the result of the Illinois primary of 10 April, in which, the deck says, the "Small-Thompson-Crowe Group" was "swamped" by the Lowden-Deneen faction of the Republican party. It says that "the vicious political campaign of bombs and bullets in Cook County, culminating in an election characterized by violence and irregularities," ended in a rebuke to the county and city administrations.

It reports an election-day dispute over a ward count, and adds: "Al Capone, gangster overlord who lost his throne, was reported back in Cicero aiding in keeping the boys in line, but the report was unconfirmed."

The Capone sentence is unconfirmed in the story itself and is filed here only as what the wire service printed. This is the primary later called the "Pineapple Primary"; that name does not appear on this page.
