A United Press dispatch from New York on the expected indictments in the killing of Arnold Rothstein, who, the story says, was fatally shot in the Park Central Hotel on November 4, 1928.

Page 5 of the Washington Daily News, 30 November 1928, carries at top left a story headed "McManus, Two Others to Be Indicted Today," with the deck "Three True Bills Only First of Many in Rothstein Murder, District Attorney Says; McManus Continues Silence." It is credited "By United Press" under a NEW YORK dateline.

The dispatch says George McManus, described as a "bookmaker and 'honest gambler,'" would be indicted that day, with two unnamed persons, "in the murder of Arnold Rothstein, internationally known gambler who was fatally shot in the Park Central Hotel here Nov. 4." It says McManus was held because "three persons have sworn he was in room 349 of the Park Central the night Rothstein was shot," and that District Attorney Banton expected further indictments. The OCR breaks "inter-nationally" across a line; the wording above was checked against the page image.

The story is a wire report of what a prosecutor said before any indictment was returned. It also repeats guesses about motive and reports that "Federal agents think" Rothstein was connected with a narcotics ring. This archive takes from the page only the date and place of the shooting as the paper printed them, and does not repeat one witness's nickname as printed. The rest of the page is the Vestris inquiry and advertising.
