Page 4 of the Washington Daily News, 15 February 1929: the continuation of the front-page story on the Chicago garage killings, naming the seven dead, with a news-agency photograph of the crowd outside the garage.

Page 4 of the Washington Daily News, 15 February 1929, carrying the continuation of a front-page story under the headline "Fear Seals the Lips of Those Who Saw Chicago Killers" and the deck "All Who Witnessed Departure of Slayers of Seven Are Silent; Al Capone’s Throne Totters." The front page of the issue was not opened for this record, and no wire credit appears on the continuation.

The continuation names the dead, as the page image reads (the OCR garbles several of these names), as "James Clark, Dr. Reinhart Schwimmer, Frank Gusenberg, Peter Gusenberg, Adam Heyers, John May and Alfred Weinshank." It says Schwimmer "was not a gangster" but was friendly with the Moran gang, that two of the killers wore police uniforms, that eighty empty machine gun and shotgun shells were found on the floor, and that people who saw the killers leave would not talk. The top of the page carries an N.E.A. Telephoto, "Where Gang Volley Killed Seven," of the crowd outside the garage.

The reconstruction of the shooting is the paper's account from people in the vicinity, not testimony. The photograph belongs to a news agency; this archive stores the whole page as a record of the issue and does not reuse the picture on its own.
