International News Service report of 22 February 1929 that the dismantled remains of a car like a detective-squad Cadillac were found after a fire in a rented North Side garage, and that officials predicted arrests.

Washington Times, 22 February 1929, "General News Section" front (image 3 of the issue as scanned). The story is datelined "CHICAGO, Feb. 22 (I.N.S.)" and opens: "Arrest of the actual slayers of the “unlucky seven” members of the “Bugs” Moran gang in the garage massacre a week ago was predicted today" by an assistant state's attorney and Deputy Police Commissioner John Stege, "as the result of the discovery of charred remnants of the murder car in a private North Side garage."

The report says the parts were "dismembered parts of a new Cadillac car exactly like those used by the Chicago detective squads," found after what police called an incendiary fire, together with a siren like those on detective-bureau cars. It says the garage had been rented on 12 February "by a man giving the name of Frank Rogers," and that it stood in "Little Sicily." It adds that police held two men among half a dozen taken in raids.

The predictions of arrest and the identification of the car as the "murder car" are officials' statements as reported. This archive does not name the men in custody from this page.
