The Church Committee's 1975 interim report says a close friend of President Kennedy, who had frequent contact with him from late 1960 to mid-1962, was also a close friend of John Rosselli and Sam Giancana, and that Hoover sent memoranda about it in February 1962. The report does not name the friend.

Printed pages 129 and 130 of "Alleged Assassination Plots Involving Foreign Leaders," the Church Committee's interim report of 20 November 1975 (PDF pages 140 and 141). The section asks whether President Kennedy learned of the CIA's underworld assassination plot through the FBI's investigation of Giancana and Rosselli.

The report says: "Evidence before the Committee indicates that a close friend of President Kennedy had frequent contact with the President from the end of 1960 through mid-1962. FBI reports and testimony indicate that the President's friend was also a close friend of John Rosselli and Sam Giancana and saw them often during this same period." A footnote says White House telephone logs "show 70 instances of phone contact between the White House and the President's friend," and that "Both the President's friend and Rosselli testified that the friend did not know about either the assassination operation or the wiretap case." On February 27, 1962, Hoover sent identical memoranda to the Attorney General and to Kenneth O'Donnell about Rosselli's contact with the friend.

The report does not name the friend. A search of the whole report text finds neither "Exner" nor "Campbell." This archive therefore does not say who the friend was, and does not attach these sentences to any person.
