Judge Posner's opinion in the appeal of twenty members of the Ferriola Street Crew opens: 'The Chicago Outfit ... operates through street crews.' It names Joseph Ferriola as the crew's boss from 1979 to his death in 1989, succeeded by Infelise.

United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, decided March 1, 1996, Chief Judge Posner writing. The opinion begins: "The Chicago Outfit (the 'Outfit,' the 'Mob,' the 'Mafia') — the criminal enterprise whose most notorious boss was Al Capone — operates through 'street crews.'" (CourtListener's scan prints "A1 Capone.")

The court says the twenty defendants in this mainly RICO case "were members of the Ferriola Street Crew, named after its boss from 1979 to his death in 1989, Joseph Ferriola. Ferriola was succeeded by defendant Infelise." It describes the crew's collection of "street tax" from bookmakers not affiliated with the Mob in the suburbs north of Chicago, mainly in the 1980s, efforts that "included the murder of a bookmaker named Hal Smith," and says the evidence of the defendants' participation in that murder depended on the testimony of a cooperating member. The court affirmed the judgments except for a resentencing of Salvatore DeLaurentis.

Harry Aleman appears in the opinion only in the list of counsel, as an appellant in No. 93-1135; the text read does not describe his part. The district court's 1993 sentencing memorandum in the same prosecution is filed as [United States v. Infelise](/items/courtlistener-us-v-infelise-835-f-supp-1466/).
