Seventh Circuit opinion of September 2, 1982 on appeals over wiretap evidence in the prosecution of Allen Dorfman and others for conspiring to bribe a United States senator, describing a fourteen-month FBI interception that produced more than 2,000 reels of recordings.

United States Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, Nos. 82-2083, 82-2084 and 82-2209, submitted August 20, 1982, decided September 2, 1982, before Chief Judge Cummings and Judges Pell and Bauer. The appeals are from orders denying suppression of wiretap evidence in the prosecution of Allen M. Dorfman and others for conspiring to bribe a United States senator.

The opinion records that the FBI received authority on January 29, 1979 to tap telephones at Amalgamated Insurance Agency Services in Chicago and to intercept the conversations of Dorfman and five others, that the taps ran fourteen months, and that "The surveillance produced more than 2,000 reels of recordings." The opinion deals with the legality of the interception and the minimization of it. It does not decide guilt.

The prosecution is the one later decided in [United States v. Williams](/items/courtlistener-us-v-williams-737-f2d-594/), whose Las Vegas property, Wonderworld, was part of the alleged bribery scheme and whose footnote states that Dorfman "was murdered prior to sentencing and the case against him was dismissed as moot." This page does not state a date or circumstances of his death, which the opinions do not give.
