FBI photograph of a brick salvaged from the Palace Chop House in Newark, where Arthur Flegenheimer, known as Dutch Schultz, and four associates were shot on the night of 23 October 1935.

The FBI states that Arthur Flegenheimer (Dutch Schultz) and four associates were shot at the Palace Chop House in Newark, New Jersey, on the night of 23 October 1935, and that Schultz died the next day. The brick is a piece of the restaurant that the Bureau holds. The page ties the Bureau's interest to its investigation of who had helped Schultz while he was a fugitive on federal tax charges.

The page also gives an account of what organized-crime leaders decided about Thomas E. Dewey. That account is the FBI's narrative and is not repeated here as a fact.
