A Bureau of Investigation Chicago letter to the Director, captioned for Capone's contempt case, reporting that he was released from jail at Philadelphia on March 17, 1930 after serving a sentence for carrying concealed weapons. Read from the OCR.

A letter from the Bureau's Chicago office to the Director, at about scan 33 of Part 24 of the FBI's Capone file, captioned "ALPHONSE CAPONE, contempt of court." It reports that Capone was released from jail at Philadelphia on March 17th, 1930, after serving ten months of a sentence there for carrying concealed weapons, and that the United States Attorney at Chicago advised that the contempt case was awaiting disposition.

The letter's own date is only partly legible in the OCR; the Capone file inventory gives March 20, 1930. The OCR prints the year of the release as "1950," which is a misreading. This archive read the letter from the viewer's OCR only.

Other Part 24 serials on the 1929 contempt citation are filed as [the bond letter](/items/fbi-vault-capone-p24-contempt-citation-bond-letter-1929/) and [the Miami affidavits](/items/fbi-vault-capone-p24-miami-affidavits-1929/).
