# FBI teletype page: request to interview Carlo Gambino in Miami about the Apalachin meeting

Canonical: https://mobfiles.org/items/fbi-vault-gambino-pt03-scan70-miami-interview-request/

Second page of an FBI message from the New York office asking Bureau permission for the Miami office to interview Gambino, at an Assistant U.S. Attorney's request, about his attendance at the Apalachin meeting. Undated on this page.

Part 03 of the FBI Vault's Carlo Gambino file, scan 70, headed "PAGE 2" and signed "Powers." The scan is poor: the first lines are partly illegible, and neither the date nor a file number can be read, so none is given. Page 1 of the message is a separate scan not examined here.

The legible text lists topics for the interview: "...[Gambino] attended the Apalachin meeting, the purpose of the meeting, with whom he went to Apalachin, the details of his trip to that location, whom he met there, how he learned of the meeting, ... In instituting such an interview, AUSA LYNCH suggested that agents direct GAMBINO'S attention to the fact that he undoubtedly is aware that subpoenas have been issued for his appearance before the FGJ, SDNY, but were not served because of his illness ... It is to be noted that GAMBINO'S hospitalization was due to a heart condition." Ellipses mark illegible or redacted text.

The page shows the federal grand jury in the Southern District of New York pursuing questions about the meeting. The Second Circuit's opinion in [United States v. Bufalino](/items/courtlistener-us-v-bufalino-285-f2d-408/) describes the grand-jury questioning of those present over the following year and a half.
