First of three parts of the FBI Vault's file on Lester Gillis. Page 1 is a 23 August 1934 memorandum from J. Edgar Hoover transmitting a bank robbery modus operandi report on the Peoples Savings Bank, Grand Haven, Michigan. A copy of that page is stored here.

The Vault titles the file "George (Baby Face) Nelson" and its parts "Lester Joseph Gillis (Baby Face Nelson) Part 01" to "Part 03 (Final)." Part 01 has 113 viewer pages. Page 1, stored here, is a one-line memorandum dated August 23, 1934, headed "Memorandum for Mr. Edwards": "Transmitted herewith is a bank robbery - modus operandi report relative to the robbery of the Peoples Savings Bank, Grand Haven, Michigan." It is signed John Edgar Hoover, Director, notes an enclosure, and carries a Division of Investigation "Recorded & Indexed" stamp of August 24, 1934 with the file number 91-57-1.

The memorandum does not name Gillis; it sits at the head of the part the Vault assigns to him. The viewer's text layer for most other pages in this part is unreadable, and those pages were not read for this archive. Parts 02 and 03 were not filed.
