A Newark memorandum recommending that the Trinchera file be closed: "NY investigation reveals subject Trinchera was murdered along with Alphonse 'Sonny Red' Indelicato and Phil 'Lucky' Giacone on 5/5/81." It doubts the two missing bodies will ever be recovered.

Viewer page 123 of the FBI Vault's Dominick Trinchera file: a memorandum to the SAC, Newark (NR 183-1902), from a redacted special agent, dated March 9, 1982, subject "Dominic Angel Trinchera, aka Trin, Big Trin; RICO." Quotations are from the page image.

"NY investigation reveals subject Trinchera was murdered along with Alphonse 'Sonny Red' Indelicato and Phil 'Lucky' Giacone on 5/5/81. On 9/21/81, Benjamin 'Lefty' Ruggerio, Bonanno family member, was arrested by NYO for his involvement with these murders. It is doubtful at this time that the bodies of Trinchera and Giaione will ever be recovered." The memorandum adds that, according to informant information, another man, named in the memo, "has taken over Trinchera's crew," and it recommends that the case be closed.

The spellings are the memorandum's. Its arrest date, 9/21/81, is legible in the page image and is not an OCR error. It conflicts with August 29, 1981, the date given by the [S.D.N.Y. opinion](/items/courtlistener-us-v-napolitano-552-f-supp-465/) and by the FBI's own [October 1981 accomplishment report](/items/fbi-vault-brasco-p01-p361-ruggiero-arrest-report-1981/). This archive gives the court's date and records the conflict. The June 1981 GENUS teletype places the killings "late evening of May 5, 1981, or early morning, May 6, 1981."
