U.S. Attorney William Grant's list of nine Italian-born men 'in custody, charged with the murder of Chief D. C. Hennessy' who do not appear from any record to have been naturalized, with their ages; the companion to the registered-voters list.

Document 614 is U.S. Attorney William Grant's list of nine Italian-born men "in custody, charged with the murder of Chief D. C. Hennessy" who did not appear from any record to have been naturalized, with their ages (for example Manuel Politz, 28; Pietro Monastario, 42; Bastian Incardina, 26). It was forwarded to the State Department in response to its December 1890 request about the prisoners' citizenship, as the companion to the registered-voters list.

Names are spelled as the 1890 list prints them; other 1890-91 papers spell several differently (Politz and Polizzi, Monastario and Monasterio). The list shows how the case was framed to the State Department; it is not a record of the men's guilt.
