A former deputy who resigned in 1948 says, secondhand, that a fellow deputy was reprimanded by the sheriff for arresting a Trafficante. He answers 'Nothing' when asked what he knows of the Mafia. Pp. 253-259.

Jesse Henry Dugan, Jr. of Tampa, a former Hillsborough County deputy sheriff who resigned in 1948, testified on 30 December 1950 (pp. 253-259 of Part 1-A). At pp. 254-255 he testified that deputy Ted Glover was "highly reprimanded" by Sheriff Culbreath for arresting a Trafficante, and that this was "what I was told by Ted Glover," because they were "personal friends." The record says "a Trafficante," without a first name.

Asked later whether he knew Trafficante or other named men, Dugan answered "No sir," and at p. 258 he answered "Nothing" when asked what he knew of the Mafia. His testimony is secondhand, as he states. Sheriff Culbreath's written answer (Exhibit 13; p. 377) denies making any reprimand and says Dugan "knew nothing about it of his own knowledge." Glover did not testify.
