Canonical: https://mobfiles.org/items/kefauver-p5-exhibit-68-capone-syndicate-chart/

A committee chart with Capone and Nitti crossed out above "Accardo - Ricca," and arrows through Transamerican, R & H, O'Brien, Russell and Crosby to a box marked "S & G," offered by Rudolph Halley during Anthony J. Accardo's testimony on January 5, 1951.

Exhibit No. 68 is printed at page 1415 of Part 5. On January 5, 1951, after Anthony J. Accardo refused to answer whether he had been known as Joe Batters, chief counsel Rudolph Halley offered "a chart which summarizes matters now on record before the committee," saying its purpose was "to bring before the committee the relevance of the questions which will follow" (printed pages 1319 to 1320). Asked next, "Do you know Al Capone, or did you know him?", Accardo answered: "I refuse to answer." The contents describe it as a "Chart showing leadership of Capone syndicate and muscling into S. & G. in Florida."

The chart has the names Capone and Nitti, each crossed out with a large X, and an arrow down to "Accardo - Ricca." From there arrows run around a circle through "Transamerican," "R + H," "O'Brien" and "Russell," and down a line labelled "Partners in bookmaking," to a box marked "S + G." On the right a line runs through "Dog tracks" and "Crosby," with the notes "Bennett," "$75,000" and a second dollar figure. Halley's statements about the chart were counsel's, not sworn testimony, and the chart is his summary, not a finding.

This is a hearing exhibit. The names, ranks and relationships printed on it are the labels of a chart that counsel offered as a summary of the committee's record. They are not findings of the committee or of a court, and this archive does not copy any of them onto a family page or a person page.
