Charles Gioe, listed in the volume's contents as "Gioe (Joye), Charles," testified in executive session on 9 September 1950 (Part 5, pp. 74-110). He gave a Chicago hotel as his residence and produced canceled checks, tax returns and ledgers under subpoena.

He said he was a parolee. He described holding about 17 percent of a restaurant venture from about 1939, and buying hotel stock at the suggestion of Alex Greenberg, which he said he sold at a profit of $2,500.

The witness's account of his own finances, given to committee counsel. The hotel's street address, printed in the transcript, is not repeated here.
