# Kefauver Committee hearings, Part 1: Florida (1950)

Canonical: https://mobfiles.org/items/kefauver-part-1-florida-1950/

Printed hearings of the Senate Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce, Part 1, Florida: sessions in Miami and Washington, May to September 1950.

The title page reads "Investigation of Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce. Hearings before a Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce, United States Senate", and this volume is Part 1, headed "Florida". The dates printed on the title page are May 26 and 27, July 13, 14, and 15, August 9 and 10, and September 19, 22, and 26, 1950. The volume belongs to the 81st Congress, 2d session. It is part of the printed record of the committee created by Senate Resolution 202 (81st Congress), the Kefauver Committee, and prints sworn testimony, a contents list of witnesses with page numbers, and a schedule of exhibits. The Internet Archive scan has 830 page images.

The session datelines place the hearings in Miami and Washington. The session lines print these rooms and buildings:

- Courtroom of the United States district court, Miami, Fla.
- Room 318, room 457 and the caucus room, Senate Office Building, Washington
- Room 910, Home Owners Loan Corporation Building, Washington

The contents page lists, among the witnesses, Johnston, William H.; Allenberg, Abe; Levitt, Jules; Levitt, Leo; Sullivan, James A.; Clark, Walter; Ervin, Richard; Crosby, William O.; Sullivan, Daniel P.; Rosenbaum, Edward; Salvey, Harold; Russell, Harry; Griffin, C. V.; Fant, Julian E.; Wolfson, Louis; Schine, Meyer; Milledge, Stanley. The names follow the contents page; spelling was corrected only where the OCR was plainly wrong. A list of witnesses is not a list of findings: the volume prints questions and answers, and this archive does not summarize them.

The first Miami sessions (May 26 and 27, July 13, 14, and 15) met in "the courtroom of the United States district court"; the volume does not name the building. The schedule of exhibits lists a run of photographs entered in evidence (exhibits 48 to 89). This archive did not check whether those images are printed in the volume. The title page OCR reads "AUGUST S AND 10"; the session headers give August 9 and 10.

The archive.org copy is a Boston Public Library scan of the Government Printing Office print, and the Internet Archive marks it not in copyright. The room lines and datelines above were read from the archive's OCR text of the scan.
