Joseph Stacher, giving his aliases as Doc Harris, Doc Rosen and Doc Stacher, tells the Kefauver Committee in Newark that Abner Zwillman was a boyhood friend who lived "around the corner."

Printed in [Part 18](/items/kefauver-part-18-new-york-new-jersey-1951/). The Newark session of Wednesday, July 11, 1951 met in the United States Courthouse, Federal Square, Newark, with Senator Charles W. Tobey presiding. The heading reads "Testimony of Joseph Stacher, South Orange, N.J., accompanied by Samuel I. Kessler, attorney, Newark, N.J." (the Archive OCR prints the name "Stacker" throughout; the page image reads Stacher). The stored image is page 266.

Asked for nicknames or aliases, he answers "Doc Harris. Doc Rosen," agrees to "Doc Stacher," and says family and friends call him "Joey"; asked about "Baldy," he answers "Yes." On page 266 he says he was born "on the other side," in "Poland. Called Russia-Poland," came to the United States "around 1911, 1912," lived in Newark, and was admitted to citizenship around "'29, maybe '30." Asked whether he knew Abner or Irving Zwillman when young: "Abner Zwillman. Irving is a brother of his." He agrees they were boyhood friends, "Brought up in the same neighborhood," and on page 267 says they lived "Around the corner" and "Played ball together."

These are a witness's answers. The committee's questions about other people are not evidence, and this page takes no rank or role from them. The street addresses printed in the testimony are not reproduced here. Stacher's later FBI file is [Part 01](/items/fbi-vault-stacher-p01-los-angeles-reports-1963/); the 1943 Browne Vintners payment to "Zwillman and Stacher" is recited in [Rutkin](/items/courtlistener-rutkin-v-us-343-us-130/).
