# Kefauver Committee hearings, Part 1A: Florida (1950–1951)

Canonical: https://mobfiles.org/items/kefauver-part-1a-florida-1950/

Printed hearings of the Senate Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce, Part 1A, Florida: sessions in Washington and Tampa, November 1950 to February 1951.

The title page reads "Investigation of Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce. Hearings before a Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce, United States Senate", and this volume is Part 1A, headed "Florida". The dates printed on the title page are November 28; December 28, 29, 30, 1950; February 16, 17, 22, 1951. The volume belongs to the 81st Congress, 2d session, and 82d Congress, 1st session. It is part of the printed record of the committee created by Senate Resolution 202 (81st Congress), the Kefauver Committee, and prints sworn testimony, a contents list of witnesses with page numbers, and a schedule of exhibits. The Internet Archive scan has 522 page images.

The session datelines place the hearings in Washington and Tampa. The session lines print these rooms and buildings:

- Room 457 and room 104-B, Senate Office Building, Washington
- United States Courthouse, Tampa, Fla.
- Room F-82, United States Capitol Building

The contents page lists, among the witnesses, Culbreath, Hugh; Farrior, J. Rex; Licata, Tony; Bowers, George L.; Friedlander, Joseph; Patton, George; Beasley, M. C.; Wall, Charles M.; Giglio, Paul; DiLorenzo, Anthony; Tillman, Hon. Henry C.; Marvin, Lt. Charles A.; Fowler, Cody. The names follow the contents page; spelling was corrected only where the OCR was plainly wrong. A list of witnesses is not a list of findings: the volume prints questions and answers, and this archive does not summarize them.

The Tampa sessions were taken by a subcommittee under Senator Lester C. Hunt on December 28 to 30, 1950. The schedule of exhibits describes exhibit 8 as a photostat of a deed "by John Torrio and wife, to Hugh Culbreath and wife, dated Oct. 8, 1945". The contents page OCR reads "Beaslev, M. C."; it is given here as Beasley, a probable OCR error that was not checked against the page image.

The archive.org copy is a Boston Public Library scan of the Government Printing Office print, and the Internet Archive marks it not in copyright. The room lines and datelines above were read from the archive's OCR text of the scan.
