Arthur B. McBride appeared voluntarily with Washington counsel, at the committee's request, on the books and records of the Continental Press wire service; his counsel stated that he had never been engaged in any illegal business.

Printed pages 14 to 18, 28 to 32 and 43 to 110 of Part 6. Arthur B. McBride appeared with Walter Gallagher and William Dempsey of Washington as counsel. Gallagher asked that "the record reflect that Mr. McBride is here voluntarily and not pursuant to subpena as has been reported in the newspapers," and the chairman confirmed the arrangement under which Continental Press witnesses would appear voluntarily.

Most of his testimony concerns the Continental Press racing-wire service, his family's interest in it, and its outlets, among them the Empire News Service. Asked by his counsel, "are you engaged now or have you ever been engaged in any illegal business in violation of either State or Federal law?" McBride answered, "No, definitely not." Committee counsel also asked him whether he knew Frank Milano; he said he had known him "Thirty years, I guess."

Sutton and Youngstown's police chief, Edward J. Allen, linked the Empire News Service to Cleveland gamblers in their own testimony; McBride's testimony, read here only in part, does not say so. Nothing on this page is a finding.
