Head-and-shoulders portrait of Joseph Petrosino in New York City police uniform, from the New York World-Telegram & Sun collection. The Library's record dates the item 13 March 1909, the day after he was shot in Palermo. A copy is stored here.

The Library of Congress titles this photograph "[ Lt. Joseph Petrosiino, head-and-shoulders portrait, in N.Y.C. police uniform]." The title was devised by Library staff and is quoted with its spelling. The subject heading reads "Petrosino, Joe,--1860-1909", and the record's created or published field reads "1909 March 13."

The record does not say who made the portrait or when it was taken; the March 1909 date may be the date the newspaper filed or used the print, and this archive does not treat it as the date of the sitting. A police shield numbered 285 is visible on the coat in the print.
