Photograph from the New York World-Telegram & Sun collection showing Detective Lt. Joseph Petrosino, Inspector Carey and Inspector McCafferty escorting Tomasso Petto, dated 1903. A copy is stored here.

The Library of Congress titles this photograph "[Detective Lt. Joseph Petrosiino( left) , Inspector Carey and Inspector McCafferty escorting Mafia hitman Petto the Ox (Tomasso Petto, second from left)]." The title was devised by Library staff and is quoted with its spelling and spacing. Its subject heading reads "Petto, Tomasso, d. 1905 -- Capture & imprisonment -- New York (State) -- New York". The record gives 1903 as the date.

"Mafia hitman" and "Petto the Ox" are the Library's words. They are not a finding of this archive, which has filed no court record for Petto. The record does not state the charge or the day.

The photograph is filed in the New York World-Telegram & Sun collection. Its rights advisory reads "No known restrictions on publication," with no staff-photograph qualifier. The copy stored here is the Library's service JPEG.
