The Library of Congress titles this print "[Louis "Lepke" Buchalter handcuffed to guard, getting into van] / World Telegram & Sun photo by Al Aumuller." Its subject heading reads "Buchalter, Louis, 1897-1944 -- Capture & imprisonment". The record gives 1939 as the date. It names no day or place, and it does not name the guard.

The FBI's caption on its [Buchalter mug shots](/items/fbi-lepke-buchalter-mug-shots/) gives his surrender as August 24, 1939. This page does not say the van photograph was taken that day.

The Library's rights statement covers World-Telegram & Sun staff photographs only, and the record identifies this print as one. The copy stored here is the Library's service JPEG.
