Allen Dorfman appeared under subpoena with counsel Stanford Clinton. Chief counsel Robert Kennedy and the committee's accountant described three months of difficulty obtaining the records of Dorfman's companies; Dorfman said the staff had reviewed them in his office for eleven weeks.

Part 37 opens with proceedings of 5 November 1957 (printed p. 13727). The volume also holds sessions of 9 May and 13 to 20 August 1958, which are not described here.

Allen Dorfman was sworn and appeared with counsel Stanford Clinton. Asked whether he had brought the subpoenaed records, he said: "We have part of the records which you have requested, Mr. Kennedy. The other records we have not brought with us simply because your committee has reviewed these records for the past 11 weeks in my office."

Chief counsel Robert F. Kennedy told the committee that the investigation "involving the Dorfmans" had met no cooperation over three months: "We have had nothing but stumbling blocks as we have moved along." The committee's accountant, Carmine S. Bellino, described records that were promised and not produced and some 15 or 20 companies under investigation. On the page shown here, Clinton answers that the investigators "have been in there for 11 weeks" and asks for "reasonable protection" for the documents.

This is an exchange about access to records. Kennedy's and Bellino's statements are the committee staff's, and Dorfman's are his own; none is a finding. The volume prints Dorfman's home address, which is not repeated here.
