Printed hearings of the Senate Select Committee on Improper Activities in the Labor or Management Field, Part 53, June 1959, including Sam Giancana's appearance on June 9, 1959 and staff testimony about him and Anthony Accardo.

Part 53 of the McClellan Committee's printed hearings, "Investigation of Improper Activities in the Labor or Management Field," 86th Congress, 1st session, covers hearings of June 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 11, 1959.

On Tuesday, June 9, 1959, committee staff member LaVern J. Duffy referred to "Sam 'Mooney' Giancana." Giancana then appeared, gave his name and an Oak Park address, and declined to answer on Fifth Amendment grounds: "I decline to answer because I honestly believe my answer might tend to incriminate me."

Staff member Pierre E. G. Salinger testified: "Mr. Giancana is a top figure in the underworld in Chicago." He described two major convictions, "for burglary and larceny in 1929 and violation of the internal revenue laws as they relate to liquor, in 1939," and said "He served a total of 6 years 11 months in penitentiaries as a result of those two convictions." He also described a 1953 trip to Los Angeles that Giancana made "in the company of Anthony Accardo, who is the top figure in the Chicago underworld." These are statements of committee staff under oath, not committee findings. The full OCR of the volume was not stored by this archive; the passages above come from a saved extract.
