Printed hearings of 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9 July 1959. On 6 July Anthony Provenzano, with counsel, declined to state his occupation or to answer Robert Kennedy's questions about Teamsters offices and payments, saying his answer "might tend to incriminate me."

Part 55 covers hearings on 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9 July 1959, held under Senate Resolution 44 of the 86th Congress. The page shown here is the volume's title page.

On 6 July Anthony Provenzano appeared with counsel H. Clifford Allder. He gave a business address in Hoboken, N.J. Asked his occupation, he answered: "Mr. Senator, I respectfully decline to answer because I honestly believe my answer might tend to incriminate me." He gave the same answer to Robert Kennedy's questions, among them whether he was president of a Teamsters local and of Joint Council 73 in Newark, and whether he had received payments other witnesses had described.

The Archive's uncorrected OCR prints the local in Kennedy's question as "Local 660." The federal court records filed here name Provenzano's local as Local 560. This archive has not checked the number against the page image and does not rely on it. A refusal to answer is not evidence of the facts asked about. The volume prints his residence, which is not repeated here.
