The select committee's report on its first year, ordered printed 24 March 1958. It finds that Dave Beck "took, not borrowed, more than $370,000 in union funds" and that James R. Hoffa "repeatedly betrayed the members of his own union."

The Select Committee on Improper Activities in the Labor or Management Field filed this report on its first year's work. It was ordered printed on 24 March 1958 (legislative day 17 March). Its contents include sections and findings on the Teamsters in Portland, Frank W. Brewster, Dave Beck, the "New York teamster phony locals," James R. Hoffa, Nathan W. Shefferman, the garbage industry, organized violence in Tennessee, and the Operating Engineers.

On Beck the committee found that he "took, not borrowed, more than $370,000 in union funds" (p. 85). On Hoffa it found that he "repeatedly betrayed the members of his own union by entering into a number of business relationships with employers with whom his union negotiated" (p. 250). The page shown here (p. 254) ends the report's list of men with criminal records it connected with Hoffa and his locals, rejects his "posture of forgetfulness as unworthy of belief," and closes by finding him "a dangerous influence in the labor movement and an unworthy steward of the destinies of 1,500,000 men and women."

These are findings of a Senate committee, not of a court. The final report's [Part 3](/items/mcclellan-srept-86-1139-part-3-1960/) quotes them.
