# Internal Revenue Bureau: captured opium outfit (Treasury lantern slide, about 1915)

Canonical: https://mobfiles.org/items/nara-158884169-irb-captured-opium-outfit/

A hand-coloured Treasury lantern slide captioned "Internal Revenue Bureau. Captured Opium Outfit": a long opium pipe, a lamp, a small scale, tools and a tin box laid out on a table.

The National Archives catalog title is "Internal Revenue Bureau- Captured opium outfit," local identifier 56-AT-67. The printed caption on the slide reads "INTERNAL REVENUE BUREAU. CAPTURED OPIUM OUTFIT." It shows, laid out on a table, a long opium pipe with its bowl, a lamp under a glass chimney, a small brass scale pan, needles and other tools, a tin box and a card.

The slide does not say where, when or from whom the outfit was taken, and this page does not supply it. The catalog gives no date; the series was prepared for the exhibitions of 1915 or 1917, which is the basis for the date span here. The Internal Revenue Bureau, not a separate narcotics agency, is the office the caption names.
