# Coast Guard destroyer SHAW on patrol for rum-running vessels

Canonical: https://mobfiles.org/items/nara-205590850-destroyer-shaw/

A National Archives Coast Guard photograph of the destroyer SHAW. The catalog says it shows the vessel on patrol searching for rum-running vessels. No crew or captured vessel is named.

The National Archives catalog title is "Coast Guard Destroyer SHAW," local identifier 26-G-02-02-61(1). The catalog description reads: "This image depicts the Coast Guard Destroyer SHAW on patrol searching for rum-running vessels." The print shows a four-stack destroyer broadside at sea with hull number CG-22 and heavy black smoke from the funnels. The catalog gives 2 February 1961 as the production date, matching the local identifier; this page does not take it as the date the picture was taken.

The item is in Record Group 26, file unit "Prohibition Era 1924; Radio; Regattas & Parades; Refugees." The Coast Guard Historian's article filed here says refurbished Navy destroyers entered Coast Guard service in 1924. The catalog names no officer, crew member or captured vessel, and this page does not.
