Canonical: https://mobfiles.org/items/nara-205590880-destroyer-semmes-1934/

A National Archives Coast Guard photograph of the destroyer SEMMES. The catalog says it shows the vessel on patrol searching for rum-running vessels. No crew or captured vessel is named.

The National Archives catalog title is "Coast Guard Destroyer SEMMES," local identifier 26-G-02-08-34(1). The catalog description reads: "This image depicts the Coast Guard Destroyer SEMMES on patrol searching for rum-running vessels." The print shows a four-stack destroyer with hull number CG-20. A typed strip on the mount reads "Coast Guard destroyer SEMMES. Jan. 30. 1934." The catalog's production date is 8 February 1934, matching the local identifier; the two dates are given as found.

The item is in Record Group 26, file unit "Prohibition Era 1924; Radio; Regattas & Parades; Refugees." The Coast Guard Historian's article filed here says refurbished Navy destroyers entered Coast Guard service in 1924. The catalog names no officer, crew member or captured vessel, and this page does not.
