Press release of May 23, 2011 announcing a 50-count superseding indictment of 13 people charged with racketeering conspiracy and related crimes as members and associates of the Philadelphia LCN family. Charges are allegations.

Press release of United States Attorney Zane David Memeger, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, May 23, 2011, on the letterhead of the office at 615 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia. "A superseding indictment was unsealed today against 13 members and associates of the Philadelphia organized crime family of La Cosa Nostra (LCN), including its current boss and underboss." The indictment charged racketeering conspiracy, extortion, loan sharking, illegal gambling and witness tampering.

The release names the defendants of the 50-count superseding indictment, describing Joseph Ligambi and Joseph Massimino as the family's boss and underboss. All but two were arrested that day and appeared in federal court in Philadelphia. It calls the arrests the largest enforcement action in a decade against La Cosa Nostra in Philadelphia.

Every charge and title in the release is the indictment's allegation. The outcome of the 2012 to 2013 trial, including a mistrial on several counts, is in the [January 2013 release](/items/usao-edpa-ligambi-verdict-2013-01-03/).
