Page 4 of the Daily Worker, New York Edition, for 25 May 1926 prints a short story headed “FOREST VIEW IS CONTROLLED BY CAPONE GUNMEN,” with the deck “Gangsters Rule Village to Suit Self.” It begins: “Forest View, a small village just south of Cicero, is practically owned and absolutely controlled by ‘Scarface Al’ Capone, notorious Chicago booze runner, declares Captain John Stege of the detective bureau, following a raid by his squad on this village.”

The story says the village “consists of two hotels and forty shacks,” that it had been incorporated about eighteen months earlier, and that Capone’s men then took over its offices. It names a police chief and a village president and says a resort called the “Stockade” was kept there. Those are the paper’s statements, resting on the police captain it names. The Daily Worker was a Communist Party newspaper, and the page prints no confirmation from village officials.

This archive cites the page for the village name, its place “just south of Cicero,” the date, and what the story attributes to Captain Stege. It does not take the allegations about named individuals as established.
