A short Associated Press item on page 4 of the Evening Star of 26 October 1928, datelined Kansas City, reports that the Jackson County grand jury returned indictments naming ten men over bombings, sluggings and other racketeering “laid to labor trouble.” It says warrants for seven were in the hands of Sheriff John Miles and that three men (Robert Jackson, W. H. P. Doerr and James Martin) were arraigned. The headline sits mid-column beside unrelated items.

The item is labor-racketeering context. It does not name Lazia or Pendergast, and this archive does not treat it as a record about any named figure in Kansas City’s later history.
