Front page of the Washington Evening Star for Saturday, 26 July 1930. In the second column is “Hold Bootlegger Tricked in Charge Against Buckley,” with the deck “Detroit Newspaper Says Chock Feared Wilcox Might Send Him to Jail,” credited to the Associated Press and datelined Detroit.

It reports that the Detroit News said Frank Chock, identified as a bootlegger, swore in a new affidavit that Police Commissioner Wilcox tricked him into signing an affidavit accusing Jerry Buckley of an attempted shakedown. The item also says Buckley’s funeral was set for 9 a.m. that day.

This is a newspaper’s account of affidavits reported by another newspaper. It is not a record of any proceeding.
