The Last Edition of The Evening World for Saturday, 14 March 1891, leads with the special “Lynched! Six Prisoners Shot or Hanged by a New Orleans Mob.” The headline continues: “Riotous Outcome of the Verdict in the Hennessy Case.” The dispatch says thousands gathered at the Clay statue, attacked the Parish Prison, raided gun stores, and shot and hanged “six of the accused Italians,” with militia called out. The page was read for the headline and the opening dispatch only.

The same paper’s later Sporting Extra of the same day prints the count as eleven. The two pages together show how the reported count changed within a single day. The page’s headline and wording are the paper’s.
