Front page of the Indianapolis Times, Monday, 15 June 1925, home edition. The United Press story, datelined Chicago, June 15, says that “More than 300 foreign-born gunmen and moonshine makers were herded in police cells today in the most extensive series of raids ever made here by police,” ordered after the killing of two policemen and the wounding of another in a street fight on Saturday. It names Mayor Dever and State’s Attorney Robert E. Crowe among the officials who announced the campaign.

It says federal officials would deport aliens found guilty of violating the law and that police charged that nearly all the prisoners worked for the Genna brothers. It says Antonio Genna, “leader of the band,” had been killed weeks earlier (the paper’s description), and that Mike Genna was killed by a policeman after the fight. The OCR prints the two captured men as “John Scalice and Albert Anseyno.”

The story’s figures and descriptions are the police’s and the wire service’s. A $100,000 defense fund it mentions is what police said they were told, and is not taken here.
