Page 15 (“Page Fifteen”) of the Milwaukee Leader, Mail Edition, 15 February 1929, carrying the continuation of a front-page story under the headline “WIDOWS KEEP GANGLAND’S SILENCE CODE.” The front page was not opened for this record, and no wire credit appears on the continuation. Its wording follows the United Press story printed the same day in the Indianapolis Times.
The continuation reports that one of the seven “lived for an hour” without saying who shot him, and that “Eighty empty machine gun and shotgun shells were on the floor, less than 15 feet from the wall.” It mentions a police theory that Detroit gunmen did the killing, says State’s Attorney John Swanson ordered all men picked up brought to his office, and prints a list of the dead whose spellings differ from other papers’ (for example “Adam Hyers, alias Frank Snyder”).
The theories on this page are police theories as printed. This archive cites the page for what it reports was found at the garage, not for who was responsible.
