The Tribune’s page 2 prints a special dispatch from New Orleans dated 16 October (the OCR misreads the date as 18 October). It reports that Chief of Police David C. Hennessy was shot at midnight by two parties of assailants posted on Rampart and Basin streets, was found with six serious wounds, and died hours later after saying his murderers were Italians. It says nine men were in jail before daylight and that a witness, Mr. Peeler, identified some of them. The same dispatch appears in the Fort Worth Daily Gazette of the same day.

The paper also repeats the claim that an Italian society orders assassinations. That is the report’s assertion, not a finding, and this archive does not adopt it. The page carries unrelated Washington news; the full article was read.
