The New-York Tribune of 15 March 1891 prints the New Orleans account under the headline “Stamped Out in Blood. The Mafia in New-Orleans Receives Its Death Blow.” It is the same Associated Press text as the Indianapolis Journal’s, with a different headline. The headline approves of the killings and is quoted for the record, not endorsed.

The page also prints a Washington special, “Italy May Demand Indemnity,” which says the State Department had always held that no strictly legal claim for damages could result from a lynching of foreign subjects and refers to Secretary Bayard’s policy in a parallel case. The official correspondence is filed separately from the State Department’s printed volume for 1891.
