Post-1930 issue. The Library of Congress title record for this newspaper states that it is believed to be in the public domain or to have no known copyright restrictions; this archive treats that statement as a no known restrictions mark, on the editor's decision of 12 October 2026, pending a renewal check. The story is wire copy and the page reproduces an uncredited photograph captioned "SCARFACE CAPONE"; both are covered only by that decision, and the photograph is not reproduced separately. The page image is used as a record of the issue.

Front page of the Sunday Star-News, Wilmington, N.C., 26 January 1947. The Library of Congress files this Sunday issue under the title The Wilmington Morning Star (LCCN sn78002169); the masthead prints “The Sunday Star-News.” The banner reads “TALMADGE, THOMPSON FACE GEORGIA BANK COURT SUIT; SCARFACE AL CAPONE DIES,” and the story runs under the head “Former Gang Leader Dies Amid Luxury,” datelined Miami Beach, Fla., Jan. 25, with the Associated Press symbol.

The story carries the same lede, time and cause of death as the Associated Press report in the Sunday Star of Washington: “When death came at 7:25 p.m. of pneumonia and heart failure, complications of an apoplectic stroke, he was in his own bed.” This version adds that he “had become a weak individual since he served seven and a half years in Alcatraz on income tax evasion charges.” It continues on page three. The page carries a photograph captioned “SCARFACE CAPONE.”

“Seven and a half years in Alcatraz” is the wire story’s wording; this archive takes Capone’s prison dates from federal records, not from this page. The photograph carries no credit on the page, and this archive does not reuse it on its own.
