Sports page of the Washington Daily News, 7 December 1927. A short item headed “Papers Served on Tunney Manager for Hoff Suit,” credited “By United Press” with a New York dateline, reports that “Billy Gibson, Gene Tunney’s manager, has been served with papers in the action of Max (Boo Boo) Hoff, of Philadelphia, who is seeking to collect a percentage of the champion’s earnings alleged to be due him.”

The item is about boxing business. It is filed because it shows how the national wire described Hoff before the 1928 Philadelphia grand jury inquiry, when other reports called him a fight promoter. It says nothing about liquor.
