Senate Report No. 94-465, “Alleged Assassination Plots Involving Foreign Leaders: An Interim Report of the Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities,” dated November 20, 1975. It is filed here under the hearing kind because it is a congressional committee record. It is a committee report, not a hearing transcript.

At page 88 of the PDF, the report describes the recruitment of underworld figures for the CIA’s plan against Fidel Castro. It states that the CIA Support Chief learned from a newspaper supplement that “‘Sam Gold’ was Momo Salvatore Giancana, a Chicago-based gangster.” A footnote on the same page states: “Sam Giancana was murdered in his home on June 20, 1975.” The report also records Robert Maheu’s recollection “that it was Giancana’s job to locate someone in Castro’s entourage who could accomplish the assassination.”
