United States Tax Court, T.C. Memo. 1993-10, Docket No. 16699-84, Judge Whalen, January 11, 1993. The case concerns whether a private individual could treat a finder’s fee paid in 1974 and 1975 in connection with Argent Corp.’s acquisition of Recrion Corp. in a particular way on his tax returns. It is a tax case. It is not an organized-crime case, and this archive cites it only for ownership facts the court found.

The court found that in 1972 Allen Glick or his company, Saratoga Development Corp., acquired the Hacienda Hotel and Casino. It found that Recrion “owned the Stardust and Fremont Hotel-Casinos in Las Vegas,” that after Glick’s tender offer Recrion merged into Argent Corp., and that Argent succeeded to ownership of the Stardust and the Fremont.

Those findings give the corporate history that the Eighth Circuit’s Argent opinions assume: that the Stardust and the Fremont, financed by a Teamsters Central States Pension Fund loan according to the Government’s theory in United States v. Cerone, belonged to Argent. The opinion says nothing about hidden interests, and this page does not profile the petitioner, who is not charged with any offense in it.
